Summer’s crunchy crudités

The perfect appetizer to enjoy with friends when the mercury is high…crudités are full of crunchy goodness, low in calories, easy to prepare and look great assembled on a platter with an assortment of delicious dips.

Crudité favourites such as carrots, peppers, cucumber, celery, courgettes, etc. are best julienned into long, thin sticks alongside cauliflower or broccoli florets, cherry tomatoes, radishes, chicory leaves, etc. Serve with a variety of dips, from healthy, low-cal options to rich and creamy dollops of indulgence – it’s up to you!

Natural yoghurt with no sugar or sweetener makes a great base for dips. Try with cucumber for Tzatziki, or with finely chopped chives, a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of salt and pepper. Alternatively, simply mix in a little Dijon mustard for a bit of zing. You could always switch out the yoghurt and use sour cream instead.

Cream cheese is also a delicious base for crudité dips and adapts well to both mild and strong flavours. Try mixing with Roquefort (40 g) or feta cheese (100 g) with chopped walnuts and a dash of black pepper. You could add mayonnaise to fresh white cheese or just use ready-made cheese spreads. Vegetable-based dips like guacamole and houmous also make tasty, versatile dips. Make your own or check local stores for a range of flavour combos.
