Is it a car, is it a boat?

The dream of amphibious cars has been around for a long while, yet James Bond’s aside, surprisingly few have been made.

Until now! One such vehicle is the Sea Lion; fast, modern and environmentally friendly, this handcrafted sports car has a Mazda 13B rotary engine and a stainless steel body. On land, it reaches 290 km/h, and in the water, 97 km/h (52.37 knots).

The Arosa, by Von Mercier (USA), is an electric hovercraft with luxury, high-performance technology. Like a hovercraft, it travels on a cushion of air and is capable of gliding over almost any surface with barely any friction. It has three electric motors and an innovative steering system that offers advanced manoeuvrability for a fast, fun ride.

The world’s first EV sports hovercraft boasts 120 hp, capable of a cruising speed of 48 km/h and a top speed of 120 km/h, 80 km/h (43.19 knots) on water. Its range is 72 kilometres (90 minutes on battery).

It’s a tandem two-seater that measures 4.8 metres long by 2.4 metres wide. It is currently only available in red or blue. Von Mercier has announced that, for the moment, only fifty units will be produced. The first will be delivered this summer, priced at around $100,000 US dollars, excluding taxes.
