This year’s Yaiza Extremo Sur, the island’s combined trail run and MTB (mountain bike) race, celebrates its fourth year on Sunday 14th May. Competitors have until 23.59 hours on 10th May to register. This year’s event will be the first time that FECAMON, the Canarian Mountaineering Federation, has officially included the race in their regional calendar of Mountain Races 2023.
Yaiza Extremo Sur is organised by Yaiza town hall and combines trail running and mountain biking in one competitive event. Although each race takes place simultaneously, they don’t share the same routes. In fact, each discipline covers different distances and varying levels of difficulty. Anyone interested in participating can obtain more route information, check the programme of activities and complete their registration on the official website: yaizaextremosur.es.
MTB participants can choose between two circuits of 35 km or 58 km. To add to the fun, both have areas that test riders’ technical skills and ability to race at high speeds. Trail Run competitors have the choice of 3 distances, 8, 16 or 27 km. All three routes have been designed to suit each level of ability and ensure that runners enjoy the spectacular landscapes in the south of Lanzarote.
