Come autumn, Pumpkin Spice Latte is always a hit on the menu of a certain international coffee franchise, but here’s how you can make your own at home.
For this homemade version you need; good coffee, pumpkin puree, winter spices, milk and whipped cream. If you prefer, you can replace the cream with frothed milk, and the sugar with sweetener or leave it out completely. The following ingredients make two generous-sized cups of latte, maybe not 3XL size, though!
Ingredients (for 2 people)
- 30ml pumpkin puree, natural, homemade or shop-bought
- 12g sugar or sweetener (to taste)
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- A pinch of ground nutmeg
- A pinch of ground cloves
- 450ml whole milk, semi-skimmed milk or non-dairy alternative
- 70ml freshly brewed coffee
- Whipping cream to taste
Method
Place the pumpkin puree in a bowl and mix well with the sugar and spices. Transfer the mixture to a saucepan, add the milk and heat without boiling. Mix with a whisk. Add the freshly brewed strong coffee to the hot milk and stir. Strain through a sieve and serve freshly brewed in two large mugs. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with ground cinnamon.
