Christmas decor, less is more!

This year, Christmas decor embraces darker tones, Scrooge-core and grandma-core aesthetics, festive minimalism, and a penchant for plum

This year, Christmas decor is undergoing a subtle transformation. The traditional (over)exuberance associated with the holiday is giving way to a more refined and understated approach. A preference for darker tones, minimalist lines, and a hint of nostalgia is emerging as a dominant trend.
Plum-hued accents, reminiscent of the Victorian era, are making a statement. This darker palette is often paired with a minimalist aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the cosy charm of a granny cottage on the one hand or the more austere elegance of Dickens’ Scrooge, on the other. It is less about the ‘Bah, humbug!’ and more about embracing the true meaning of Christmas and saying farewell to excess. The emphasis is on quality over quantity, with carefully selected pieces creating a sophisticated ambience.
To infuse warmth into the darker palette, consider incorporating pops of red. A single bold accent, such as a crimson cushion, a throw, a centrepiece or a vibrant poinsettia, can breathe life into the scheme. Candles, timeless symbols of light and hope, can also elevate your Christmas decor. They create a warm and inviting atmosphere, whether displayed in decorative candlesticks or clustered for a soft glow.
Glass elements, like vases, ornaments, or candleholders, add a touch of luxury and sophistication. This year’s winning colour combo is black and gold for a timeless and elegant effect. Incorporate these colours subtly, perhaps as outlines on ornaments or as part of a larger-scale festive theme.
While black and gold are trending, remember that there are other decorative styles to explore this season. Consider the natural beauty of Berry Lush, the cosy warmth of Warm Darkness, the Parisian elegance of Chic Christmas, or the playful charm of Origami and paper-based decorations.
Berry Lush brings nature indoors with vibrant greens and festive reds reminiscent of holly berries. Choose fresh pine and eucalyptus branches adorned with dried fruits and natural fibres like jute and henequen.
Warm Darkness is about creating a dark, cosy atmosphere reminiscent of medieval times. This style blends distressed, hammered metallics with the rustic charm of weathered wood and rough-textured stone.
Chic Christmas embodies Parisian elegance and femininity. Inspired by the iconic Eiffel Tower and the elegance of champagne, this style incorporates soft pinks, sophisticated olive greens, and shimmering silver and gold accents.
Origami brings its delightful, folded paper designs that complement any festive Christmas theme.
