A host of Chinese brands, especially electric and hybrid cars, have already arrived on the Spanish market, with more set to follow in 2026
It was only a matter of time, and all predictions came true. In 2025, the Spanish automotive market has seen a wave of Chinese brands, particularly electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, offering competitive prices alongside surprisingly high quality. Brands like BYD, Lynk&Co, Omoda, Firefly (a sub-brand of Nio), Jaecoo, Xpeng, Xiaomi, Zeekr, and the former British MG have all made their mark. Some were already present, but many have launched new models.
Chinese offerings now cover virtually all segments: SUVs, 4x4s, saloons, hatchbacks, and city cars. Their power outputs and ranges have caught the attention of Spanish drivers, though there’s still a degree of scepticism regarding mechanical reliability, durability, and after-sales service.
The BYD Atto 2, a compact SUV measuring 4.32 metres, with 177 horsepower and a 312 km range, received an outstanding rating from Green NCAP at its launch at the Brussels Motor Show. Also, its Seal 06 GT is a stylish compact with a 600 km range and a choice of 220 hp or 420 hp (all-wheel drive).
In the larger segment, the Jaecoo 7 presents its plug-in hybrid version, carrying a Zero Emissions label from the DGT (Spain’s traffic authority), offering 340 hp and up to 90 km in electric-only mode. Another large model is the Omoda 7. Building on the success of the Omoda 5, its larger sibling is a plug-in hybrid offering a 1,200 km total range. Arguably the most anticipated model, given its sales success in China, is the all-electric Xiaomi SU7, though its Spanish launch is yet to be confirmed.
Looking ahead to 2026, ChangAn is expected to enter the European market. China’s fourth-largest manufacturer will launch the Deepal S07 electric SUV (4.75 metres, 217 hp, 475 km range). BYD will unveil the Sealion 8, a seven-seater PHEV SUV with two power options, DM-i (271 hp) and DM-p (291 hp). Another notable arrival for 2026 is the Omoda 9 SHS, a 535 hp plug-in hybrid capable of 145 km on electric power and 1,100 km overall.
