Corpinnat, elegant bubbly

Hailing from a specific terroir, these exclusive sparkling wines are crafted predominantly from indigenous grape varieties. Biodynamically grown, meticulously hand-harvested and 100% organic, they undergo extended ageing of up to 60 months

In January 2019, nine traditional wineries from Penedès decided to leave the DO Cava appellation after a decision two years earlier to group their sparkling wines under the brand name Corpinnat, meaning ‘Heart of Penedés’. The wineries involved are Gramona, Recaredo, Llopart, Nadal, Sabaté i Coca, Torelló, Huguet-Can Feixes, Júlia Bernet, and Mas Candí.
Severing ties with the DO Cava meant relinquishing the Cava designation and associated quality indicators such as Superior, Cava de Paraje Calificado, and Gran Reserva. The Corpinnat producers collectively uphold a deep-rooted commitment to their craft, often described as an emotional connection, occasionally irrational commitment to the land and its traditions. Corpinnat aims to establish itself as a premier global brand, showcasing the exceptional sparkling wines crafted in the heart of the Penedès region.
Corpinnat regulations mandate a strict production terroir encompassing specific municipalities, vineyards and grape varieties. Most are indigenous, Macabeo, Parellada, Malvasía or Subirat Parent, Xarelo, Garnacha, Monastrell, Sumoll, and Xarelo Rosado. While up to 10% of non-native grapes like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Trepat are permitted, the emphasis remains on local varietals.
Corpinnat wineries employ the traditional Champenoise method and explore ancestral sparkling winemaking techniques. Grapes are exclusively hand-harvested from organically and often biodynamically farmed vineyards. The winemaking process is meticulously controlled, adhering to the récoltant-manipulant philosophy. Corpinnat sparkling wines are matured for at least 18 months, showcasing extended ageing. Every producer must offer a Brut Nature aged for at least 30 months and a Brut, Extra Brut, or Brut Nature de añada with a minimum of 60 months bottle ageing.
Recaredo commemorates its centennial in 2024 with the release of the Corpinnat ‘Homenaje a Josep Mata Capellades 2004’. This extraordinary wine, aged for 18 years and 8 months, pays tribute to the winery’s founder and is limited to 2,850 numbered bottles.
Recaredo made history by becoming the first Spanish sparkling wine producer to earn a perfect 100-point score from the esteemed Robert Parker Wine Advocate publication. This accolade was bestowed upon their Enoteca Turó d’en Mota 2001, a distinction previously reserved for a select group of nine Champagne houses.
