Summer fashion 2023

Denim + Y2K aesthetic. Low-rise trousers, lace and print tops, trainers with maxi platforms… teenage Cybercore looks circa nineties-noughties are brought back to life and made more extreme. Denim, in all shapes, textures and sizes. Worn, two-tone, low rise, wide cut, studded, glitter, distressed or oversize, ‘total look’ including shoes and maxi skirts.

Sheer transparencies. From evening gowns to trending tops: everything gets the sheer treatment with mesh dresses and totally translucent fabrics in abundance. Paired with bare-all lingerie looks and transparent footwear.

Gorgeous Greens. Go well with other summery colours such as orange and the mood-boosting palette of ‘Barbiecore’ pinks (from hot pink through bubblegum to powder pink). But this summer, go for green – especially aqua greens.

Linen Looks. Comfortable and elegant, cool and light. For a casual look, wear a linen shirt with jeans or Bermuda shorts in white or beige, and sandals. For special occasions, pair a linen shirt with suit trousers or pleated pants and a blazer. Poolside over a swimming costume. Long or short sleeves worn buttoned up or open; Mao or regular collar; plain colours, distressed or patterned. Colours of the moment are beige, burnt orange, white or sand and navy, blues, aqua green… Linen trousers can be shorts or long and loose with a belt.

Polo shirts. A basic wardrobe staple that’s both versatile and essential. Depending on how you wear it, you can achieve an elegant, casual, or sporty look. Whether plain or printed, a polo shirt is a must-have.

Dresses. Crochet dresses are perfect for wearing over a swimming costume; light and floaty boho dresses suit summer days and summer nights. Strappy, short or puffed sleeves; anything goes, including Grecian cut and flowing, with a bandeau neckline (strapless) or cut-out style, with peep-hole air vents to keep you cool.

Swimsuits and bikinis. Asymmetrical lines are this summer’s must. Choose colourful African and tribal prints, animal prints or shimmer in glitter. Total looks see matching bikini and sarong sets. Underwired bikinis and swimsuits push-up and work wonders for your cleavage. Cut-out and florals – lots of flowers – in print and also 3D, as well as ruffles and draping.

Swimwear. Subtle designs with micro-prints of fruit, flowers or other motifs. Or tropical print, in your face or understated. Also trending this summer are Memphis prints that hark back to the late 80s and early 90s with their colourful geometric shapes. Alternatively, colour-block offers chic elegance in just one colour or large blocks of colour. For a sporty look, opt for tight-fitting trunks or cycling shorts or hang loose with boxer shorts style shorts.

Footwear and accessories. Everyday sandals offer 4×4 all-terrain comfort in classic or sporty designs. Rock out with studs, go flat Greek style, or wear mules with transparent vinyl straps. Trainers are reived 90s style, and denim extends to footwear. As for accessories, MVPs this summer are shimmery, sparkly rhinestone bags that contrast with natural raffia and leather baskets.
