Spooky snacks. Cook up Halloween treats

Perfect for Halloween, there’s nothing better for kids than fun food. The mummies are actually sausages wrapped in pastry ‘bandages’. After the initial spooky surprise, kids can join in the fun and help make more!

Ingredients

  • Sausages
  • Ready-rolled puff pastry (amount depends on the number of sausages you’re making)
  • Sliced cheese (e.g. cheddar) – optional
  • Cream cheese (for the eyes)
  • Butter or margarine (to melt and brush the pastry)
  • Chia seeds (or sesame seeds, for the pupils of the eyes)

Method

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the puff pastry into rectangles, one per sausage, and cut them into thin strips to resemble bandages.
Cut each slice of cheese into four strips. Place each sausage on a piece of cheese and wrap it in the pastry ‘bandage’.
Place the ‘mummies’ on the baking sheet and brush with melted butter (or beaten egg) for a golden finish.
Bake (12-15 minutes) until the pastry is golden brown and cooked.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Use two dots of cream cheese to make the eyes and chia seed to create the pupil.
