The 33rd Ironman Lanzarote triathlon will take place on Saturday, 17th May. Organised by Club La Santa in partnership with the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the event had almost a thousand registrations by the end of February, with some exciting pro athletes expected (though their names remain under wraps for now). No changes are planned for the course routes.
Plans are in motion to prepare an even more spectacular start at Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen, with improved crowd control and management. Additional grandstands will be installed for spectators, and the entertainment team, along with a Batucada band, will keep the atmosphere lively until the last competitor crosses the finish line.
Lanzarote Ironkids, the children’s Ironman, is moving to Thursday this year. It will use the same beach infrastructure as the adult race, including the finish line.
Volunteer registration opens on 10th March. The Volunteer Party will be held immediately after the Award Ceremony in the same Puerto del Carmen facilities.
Organisers have reaffirmed their commitment to sustainability, stating, ‘We are working towards sustainability. We’re using recycled and recyclable materials, and we’re collaborating with local businesses to serve local food at the staff and participant buffets, and we’re reusing facilities, signage, and so on.’
