The ‘Órbita e Materia’ installation for the Italian Trade Agency space at Casa Decor 2026 takes inspiration from the moon, using architecture, lighting and materials to create a calm and carefully balanced interior.
For its space at Casa Decor 2026, the Italian Trade Agency commissioned Rebuelta Domecq to create a sophisticated suite that treats darkness as an integral part of the design rather than simply an absence of light. Entitled ‘Órbita e Materia’, the project uses the moon as its central theme, reflected throughout the architecture, lighting and choice of materials.
The design respects the stately character of the former Casa Palacio del Marqués de los Vélez y Conde de Niebla, built in the late nineteenth century in Madrid’s Barrio de las Letras and the venue for Casa Decor 2026. The building’s mouldings, soaring ceilings and grand sense of space provide the starting point for a contemporary interior that acknowledges its past while introducing thoroughly modern ideas.
A large spherical light fitting hangs above the room like a satellite, providing its main visual focus. Reflections, transparent surfaces and carefully controlled lighting carry the celestial theme through the rest of the suite.
The Rebuelta Domecq design embraces the quiet luxury associated with Italian interiors. Marble, reclaimed wood, and high-end textiles bring depth to a restrained palette of white, cream and stone shades. Sustainable materials and an automated smart-home system are discreetly integrated into the historic setting, improving comfort and energy efficiency while honouring the building’s classical character.
‘Órbita e Materia’ brings together a wide range of Italian brands, including Listone Giordano, Dedar Milano, Devon&Devon, Flos, Liu Jo Living, SapienStone, SMEG and Tubes. Other contributors include Natuzzi Italia, Cupa Stone, Alvic, Genix Home, Sidon and Ilbagno. Its carefully selected furniture, wall and floor finishes, lighting and textiles make the suite a showcase for contemporary Italian design and craftsmanship.
