Lanzarote Airport welcomed 93 private jet arrivals in 2023. Specialist companies, agencies, and brokers offer these bespoke luxury flights, ensuring passengers can remain virtually ‘invisible’ throughout their stay on the island
César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport (IATA code: ACE) is fully equipped to handle private aircraft across a wide range of categories and operational ranges. On the ground, it boasts premium VIP services, including exclusive lounges, fast-track security and customs, and seamless luxury vehicle transfers. According to a Greenpeace report, in 2023, it recorded 93 private jet arrivals, but Aena remains tight-lipped about more recent arrival data.
Lanzarote attracts a prestigious clientele, playing host to heads of state, high-net-worth businesspeople who keep low media profiles, artists, and footballers. Whispers revealed the presence of Real Madrid defender Éder Militão in January 2024, who arrived in Lanzarote by private plane with family and friends. Tom Cruise reportedly celebrated New Year 2024 in Puerto Calero after arriving on his private jet. Colombian singer Karol G also flew in by jet in April.
The island is fast emerging as a prime destination for these types of tourists, who find the tranquillity, privacy, and exclusivity they need on the island of the volcanoes. Once they have landed, guests are typically collected by a luxury vehicle provided by local specialists like Lanzarote Comfort Class, ready to whisk them away to their chosen retreat — such as a luxury villa in Puerto Calero, a bungalow-suite at the Meliá Salinas or an exclusive boutique hotel.
Agencies like the French firm Aeroaffaires offer private jet flights to and from Lanzarote, connecting with the Canary Islands, the rest of Spain, or Europe. A private jet from Madrid typically costs between €20,000 and €25,000, though many variables can affect the final price.
Other companies and brokers offering services like jet flights, rentals, and destination management include Albajet, Lunajets, Call a Jet, Jets Privados 24, Go Now Jets, JetApp, WindyJets, Eurosky, Club Canary, and Airevolution Jets, whose CEO is the Tenerife-based broker Nuria Placeres.
‘There are many factors that influence the cost of flying by private jet,’ Placeres explains. ‘The most significant ones are flight duration and the type of aircraft. Comfort levels and onboard services also play a role, rated as low, medium, or high cabin class. Costs also depend on whether the jet is chartered, co-owned, or used as part of a flight-hour package, a scheme which is offered by some companies.’
‘The challenge for the Canary Islands,’ Placeres points out, ‘is that while Gran Canaria once boasted a local fleet, aircraft now often have to fly down from Andalusia, the nearest mainland hub — and that repositioning cost is added to the fare. Similarly, if the jet is required for another service during its Lanzarote stay, it can substantially inflate the overall price.’
