Mindfulness: the power of the present

Mindfulness is a technique that trains the mind to focus on the present moment. By directing your attention to the here and now, you can achieve a state of mental calmness and clarity. The philosophy of mindfulness has its roots in Buddhism, but it is not related to religion. It involves complete concentration on the present moment to master thoughts and bring them into the present. Thoughts are simply observed without judgment.
There are two types of mindfulness: passive and active. Passive mindfulness (for beginners) involves sitting totally still and focusing all your efforts on ‘taming’ the mind to aid concentration. Active mindfulness (for advanced practitioners) means having already internalised passive mindfulness techniques and being able to apply them to your daily life.
By practising mindfulness, you can develop a deeper understanding of your thoughts and feelings, observing them without judgment. This increased self-awareness can lead to reduced stress, improved emotional balance, and greater resilience. Developing an ability to tap into your mind by focusing on the present moment enables you to manage your emotions more effectively and respond to everyday challenges with increased patience and tolerance. Ultimately, mindfulness can enhance your overall well-being and quality of life.
