Triathlons, open-water swimming, cycle, golf, marathons… These are just some of the fixtures filling Lanzarote’s sporting calendar from October to December
Following a highly active summer of sport that concluded in September with the Bestial Race on the 6th and the El Río Open Water Swim on the 27th, the autumn calendar is just as attractive and diverse. It features a wide variety of sports with events taking place across all of the island’s municipalities, culminating in the internationally renowned Lanzarote International Marathon.
OCTOBER
Lanzarote Cycling Tour (Vuelta Ciclista a Lanzarote): (5th – 6th). Two-stage cycling tour that is part of the UCI (International Cycling Union) “Cycling for All” programme. The single peloton covers all seven municipalities of the island. Stage 1: 115 km (5th October). Stage 2: 74 km (6th October).
Caldera de El Cuchillo Trail: (10th). Trail with two distances, 10.6 and 5.1 km, held in Lanzarote’s largest volcanic caldera in El Cuchillo (Tinajo).
La Bocaina International Swim: (12th). Open-water swim race covering 15 km between Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) and Corralejo (Fuerteventura).
Ocean Lava Lanzarote: (25th). Triathlon with Olympic, Half and Supersprint distances. Held in Puerto del Carmen.
MSRun Lanzarote: (26th). Charity run with two distances, 4 km and 8 km, in Arrecife. It raises funds for multiple sclerosis research.
NOVEMBER
Haría Titán Trail: (16th). Mountain race with distances of 14 km, 22 km and 42 km. Held in the municipality of Haría.
Club La Santa Night Run: (22nd). Club La Santa Stadium. Festive night race with several distances: 4 km and 7 km for adults. Kids Night Run, for children.
Lanzarote International Running Challenge: (23rd – 26th). Unique four-day running event with stages on asphalt, mountains, beaches and mixed terrains. Total distance: 49 km. Races in La Santa or within the municipality of Tinajo.
Playa Blanca Music Run Night: (29th). Night run with multiple distances: 1.5, 5 and 10 km in the southern town of Playa Blanca.
European Under-17 Badminton Championships: (29th November- 7th December). This is the first time that Spain has hosted this biannual competition. Individual and team events.
DECEMBER
Lanzarote International Marathon: (6th). Race starting in Costa Teguise and running along the coastline of Arrecife, Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen. Various distances: 10 km, half marathon and full marathon.
AESGOLF Lanzarote Golf Tour Grand Final: (12th – 13th). Final of the senior amateur golf circuit held at Teguise Golf (Costa Teguise) and Lanzarote Golf (Puerto del Carmen).
San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife: (28th). Popular 5 km fun run in Arrecife to see out the year.
