The secret to Korean women’s radiant skin lies in their dedication and the power of natural ingredients. With discipline and homemade recipes, you too, can achieve a luminous and healthy complexion
In recent years, Korean beauty, or K-beauty, has revolutionised global skincare standards. Characterised by a luminous, hydrated complexion resembling porcelain, it embodies a holistic approach to skin health and beauty.
The secret lies in disciplined daily care and carefully curated products with formulations rich in active ingredients and free from harmful preservatives. This includes a morning and evening regime of double cleansing, hydrating serums, eye treatments, and moisturisers. Additionally, going to sleep with makeup on is a big no-no. It’s important to exfoliate every seven to ten days and use a face mask two or three times a week. Always remember to apply sunscreen before going outside.
Given the Korean emphasis on natural, high-quality cosmetics, you can try achieving this porcelain glow at home by making your own serum. You will need fifty grams of sesame seeds, rose water, a tablespoon of olive oil, and another of aloe vera gel.
Start by lightly toasting sesame seeds in a dry pan over low heat to unlock their nutrients and essential oils, which help combat cellular ageing. Once the sesame is golden brown, grind the seeds into a fine powder. This gives you the base of the homemade Korean serum and will provide your skin with antioxidant and regenerative properties. Pour this powder into a clean container and add rose water. Stir well until you get a smooth paste. Then, add a tablespoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of aloe vera gel to the mixture. Their combination provides a powerful source of hydration for a luminous appearance. Mix well until the consistency is smooth.
Apply a small amount to clean dry skin. If using your hands, make sure they are thoroughly clean. Gently massage the serum into key areas of the face where you want to reduce signs of ageing, such as the forehead, chin, contour of the mouth and under the eyes. Leave it on for ten minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. Pat your face dry with a towel and follow up with a moisturiser.
By incorporating these steps into your skincare routine and prioritising natural ingredients, you can work towards achieving that coveted Korean complexion.
