Inspired by abstraction, she draws influence from the legendary American artist Jackson Pollock. Cometa defines herself as a \u2018material neo-expressionist\u2019 artist.<br \/>\nCometa has explored other disciplines, such as one-line drawing, installations, and photography, both as a tool and as a final art form. \u2018I travel a lot. Before coming to Lanzarote, I went to Australia and Indonesia, and now I\u2019m going to Brazil&#8230; I draw inspiration from indigenous cultures, particularly their connection to nature\u2019s vibrant palette. I find the colours that define a people\u2019s identity or ethnic group fascinating,\u2019 she explains.<br \/>\nLanzarote\u2019s volcanic landscape deeply informs her current work. \u2018The play of colours in the volcanic rock \u2013 the blacks, reds, and ochres of the lava, its shapes, and textures \u2013 captivated me,\u2019 Cometa shares. Her creative process involves exploration: walking, observing, capturing the essence of the island through photographs, and collecting materials like earth and wood. These elements are then incorporated into her canvases, often prepared by hand. \u2018That\u2019s what being a \u2018material\u2019 artist means \u2013 using the earth itself, with wood, fabrics, and other materials, alongside paints and varnishes,\u2019 she clarifies.<br \/>\nIn this volcanic, vibrant, and inspiring setting, M\u00eda\u2019s studio finds its home in Tinajo. Here, she showcases and sells her art in person and through her website (www.micaelacometa.com ; tienda.miacometaart.com).
