Lanzarote\u2019s unique wine-growing landscape can be visited on a route that encompasses volcanoes, volcanic ash and traditional architecture<\/em><\/h3>\n

The Lanzarote Wines Designation of Origin (D.O.) regulatory council governs wines produced throughout the island but the main wine producing region can be explored along the Wine Route, which runs through La Geria. The LZ-30 road meanders quietly through several kilometres of petrified volcanic ash that\u2019s been hand-hewn by Lanzarote’s farmers, resulting in a truly unique and spectacular landscape.<\/p>\n

\"De<\/a>
\nDotted around the 15.6 kilometre stretch between the Casa-Museo del Campesino and the village of Uga are some of the region\u2019s main wineries or bodegas. Many of these ‘impossible vineyards\u2019 have a bar or restaurant where you can taste the wines and a shop where you can purchase a bottle or two to take home.<\/p>\n

A good starting point is the Casa-Museo del Campesino whose restaurant specialises in traditional cuisine and serves all the island\u2019s D.O. wines. Heading along the LZ-30, you\u2019ll soon come to nearby wineries La Florida and Los Bermejos, and then Bodegas El Grifo, the Lanzarote\u2019s oldest winery dating back to 1775. It has a bar, shop and a fascinating wine museum. A few minutes away is Vinos El Campesino \/ Bodegas Barreto, which also has a restaurant and shop.<\/p>\n

Further on, past the turn-offs to Tinguat\u00f3n and T\u00edas, nestled in the trees, is designer winery Stratvs where you can stop to sample and buy its wines. Picturesque Bodega Antonio Su\u00e1rez stands on the opposite side of the road, great for wine tasting and a brilliant vantage point for taking spectacular shots of the stunning scenery.<\/p>\n

Barely a kilometre further, standing opposite each other, are La Geria and Rubic\u00f3n wineries. Both are beautiful examples of traditional architecture and each has a restaurant, a shop and spaces to relax and enjoy the views.<\/p>\n

The D.O. has two other production areas: Ye-Lajares (around La Corona volcano) and Masdache. Some wineries are located elsewhere, like Vulcano de Lanzarote in T\u00edas and Puro Rofe in Conil; La Grieta, in Punta Mujeres, and D’Celso Valle del Malpaso, in Har\u00eda; La Mareta, in Guatiza, opposite the Cactus Garden; Guigu\u00e1n and Tisalaya, in Tinajo; Reymar-Los Perdomos, in Mancha Blanca; and Tierra de Volcanes and Fem\u00e9s, both in the municipality of Yaiza.<\/p>\n
